About us
Greenstone Design & Build is a design and build company in Kigali. Design, engineering and construction, in one team.
We started Greenstone because building in Rwanda is often harder than it should be. We kept hearing the same stories: permits that dragged on, contractors who changed the plan or disappeared, and budgets that kept growing. And at the end, a house that looked like every other house on the street.
We work differently. Every project starts with listening: how you live or work, what the plot offers, where the sun and the views are, and what your budget allows. Design and construction stay in one team, so the people who draw your plan are the people who build it.
We don't build concrete boxes on concrete plots.

How we work
From the first conversation to the keys, in two phases. Every project is different, so some steps take longer than others.
Design
Steps 1 to 4
Consultation
We meet on site or at our office. You tell us about your plans, your plot and your budget, and we tell you what is possible.
Site study and brief
We study the plot: slope, sun, views, access and existing trees. Together with your wishes, this becomes the brief for the design.
Concept design
A first design with sketches and 3D views: how the spaces fit together, where the light comes in and how the building sits in its garden.
Developed design and quote
We refine the design with your feedback and choose the materials. Our engineer checks the structure, and we prepare a detailed bill of quantities and quote.
Build
Steps 5 to 8
Permits and working drawings
We prepare the detailed drawings for the building permit and for the site team. Our engineer submits the permit application.
Construction
Our own site team builds the project, with our designer and engineer on site. You are welcome to visit and follow the progress.
Lighting and finishes
We complete the lighting design and the finishes. For interior design or custom furniture, we can bring in trusted partners.
Handover
We walk through the finished project together, go over how everything works, and hand over the keys.
Only need part of it? We also take on design only, construction of an existing design, renovations and extensions, or lighting design on its own.
